About

My husband, Raymond Evans Ballinger, grew up in Marlton, New Jersey, on the Indian Springs Plantation that was originally part of the tract purchased by the William Evans Family from Edward Byllange.

His Great Grandmother, Sally Burroughs Evan had married David Thomas Ballinger in 1876 and had purchased the Homestead from her Uncle Thomas Evans and her Aunt, either Sally Burroughs Evans, his wife, or his sister and her Great Aunt, Mary Evans. The Ballingers farmed the Homestead until the early 1950’s.

Raymond felt the obligation to learn more about both families, and his roots, and started a series of interviews with all living Ballinger relatives, most of whom are now deceased. His Father, Raymond Evans Ballinger, Sr., had an amazing ability to remember in great detail the stories that he heard in his youth. He was also a well-known story-teller, a trait inherited by his two oldest sons, Larry and Raymie, and he shared his memories thru a series of taped conversations described during which he detailed life on the Homestead from 1914-1956.

This site is for all of us home-grown genealogists and history buffs to share information about the early Ballinger and Evans family- and to try to get details of Henry’s parentage and to share information about the settling of West New Jersey and other early families.
